dobrovolnici_plzen

One of the building blocks for the successful functioning of the organization is to help volunteer because volunteering and Animal Freedom go hand in hand for 22 years.

Without people who have decided to invest their energy and spare time to animal protection, we would not have even a fraction of what we have successfully behind.

Tereza | Cologne | 19 years | Why I volunteer Freedom for Animals?
I remember exactly the day when I woke up with the feeling that I have to somehow start repaying his debt to society, animals and nature. Later that day, I started looking on the internet various nonprofit organizations where I could be involved as a volunteer. Animal Freedom impressed me at first sight and after reading about the entire years of functioning of the organization, I decided to contact Freedom.

First I helped distribute promotional materials and collecting signatures on petitions, but I soon began to participate in collective action. Helping Animal Freedom me very fun and fills you with positive energy. Not only that, thanks to this activity every day to meet many wonderful and active people, but I also feel that changes are happening and have it all make sense.

Erik Best: Kellner and Babiš factions in Chinese shadows

Babiš vs. Kellner

By far the most significant of the 30 people receiving honors on Fri. from Miloš Zeman was Štěpán Popovič, a former high-ranking Communist who funded Petr Kellner in the early days of velvet capitalism. Whatever the current status of relations between Zeman and Kellner because of the president's fleeting predilection for Jaroslav Tvrdík's competing group of Chinese-backed Czech entrepreneurs, Zeman knows which side his bread is buttered on. Kellner's PPF was in China (and Russia) long before Tvrdík or Martin Roman had ever even heard about the OECD bank-reporting rules that made them scramble to find a frontman like CEFC for their Czech investments. One of Andrej Babiš's goals in joining forces with Daniel Herman is to block the campaign funds to ČSSD that make these circular investments possible. If he hurts Kellner's business in China in the process, so much the better. After all, there's only room for one No. 1.

Czechs think Zeman is bowing down "excessively"

Majority of Czechs think declaration reassuring China was excessive
30-10-2016 10:09 | Daniela Lazarová

The majority of Czechs think the declaration on Czech-Chinese relations issued by the country’s key officials during a visit by the Dalai Lama was excessive and uncalled for, according to an outcome of a survey conducted by the polling agency Nielsen Admosphere for Czech Television. Forty-two percent of respondents said the declaration was excessive, while 11 percent described it as unusual, but necessary. Twenty percent of respondents consider it standard procedure, while four percent said it did not go far enough. The declaration signed by the president, prime minister and the heads of both chambers of Parliament said the Czech Republic fully respected China’s territorial integrity and emphasized that the Tibetan spiritual leader’s presence in the Czech Republic did not signal a change in the country’s foreign policy in relations with China. In a related poll, 69 percent of respondents said the Czech culture minister was fully entitled to meet with the Dalai Lama even if it angered China, 17 percent said the meeting should not have taken place.

Saving face? Centre-right parties want special session over “submissive” proclamation to China

Centre-right parties want special session over “submissive” proclamation to China
29-10-2016 18:15 | Daniela Lazarová

The center-right opposition parties TOP 09 and the Civic Democrats say they will call for a special session of the lower house of Parliament to debate the recent joint proclamation of leading Czech officials to reassure China of the Czech Republic’s continued interest in developing close ties with the country and saying the Czech Republic fully respects China’s territorial integrity. The proclamation came in connection with a visit to Prague by the Dalai Lama and his meeting with Culture Minister Daniel Herman. Opposition parties and the Christian Democrats of the ruling coalition have criticized the proclamation for its submissive tone saying that it degraded the Czech Republic and was a throw-back to the communist days. Right-wing senators have called on the chamber’s speaker Milan Stěch, who is running for re-election, to distance himself from the proclamation he signed or forego their support.

Actors versus Zeman: Protests gathering momentum

Leading cultural figures have called on the public to take part in protest gatherings in support of democracy. In a proclamation issued on the occasion of Czechoslovak Independence Day, several dozen actors, singers and writers criticized the president and government for its "submissive foreign policy" in relation to China saying that the country’s leaders do not have a mandate to turn the helm of the country eastward. They urge the head of state to stop spreading lies and apologize for his behavior. The signatories include the president of the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, Jiří Bartoška, singer Vojtěch Dyk, head of the drama ensemble at the National Theatre, Michal Dočekal, and journalist Karel Steigerwald, among others.

Yoga the Mantra for Life

Yoga the Mantra for Life

Yoga is not only an exercise, but it is a lifestyle. It heals your body and mind and ensures core strength of the entire body. It helps you have full control of your thought process and gives you mental peace. I joined yoga class as a hook just like many others, to transform myself from ‘fat to fit’, but slowly it became my passion and the way to live a holistic life. At first, it was really tough for me. I could feel the numbness in my hands, legs and fingers, but I never lost hope. It is after my yoga sessions I learnt that it is a blend of Ayurveda and Modern Science. Eventually, I got deep into the subject and totally got amazed of its usefulness. You can say, “I am in love with Yoga and the science behind it”.

Yoga is that essential change which once incorporated into the lifestyle, changes your mindset towards life. Most health issues can be recovered with the help of yoga practice. Meditation and chanting Mantras are another form of this field, which has a strong impact in one’s life. Yoga does not confirm you quick results, but with patience, hard work and dedication one will definitely achieve the transformation. As a first-timer or beginner, getting yoga postures correct is a bit tough. Continuous practice and dedication will make you a PRO in Yoga asanas. After a few weeks into yoga practice, one will experience the goodness of its healing power. It acts as a therapy to avoid any unwanted stress and helps you live your life as a free bird, and fly soaring high. So my suggestion is get dressed in your Yoga attire, head on to your Yoga Mat, and get ready to explore the amazing benefits of yoga.

Russian Hacker Prague Arrest Video

PRAGUE -- Police in the Czech Republic's capital have detained a Russian citizen suspected of hacking U.S.-based websites.
A Prague police spokesman said late on October 18 that the suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, was detained in a restaurant.
The arrest was carried out on October 5 in cooperation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Hours after the arrest was made public, the professional networking service LinkedIn suggested that the arrest was tied to a 2012 breach of member information.
A spokesman for the U.S. Justice Department declined to confirm that or comment on a possible connection.

Prague Coffee Festival 22-23 October

What is Prague Coffee Festival about?

The first ever Prague Coffee Festival took place in 2012. This October (22.-23.) it will celebrate for the fifth time all that is new and exciting on the coffee scene.
Prague Coffee Festival came into existence with the idea of promoting coffee culture and getting-together everyone who is keen on coffee: proffesional baristas, coffeeshop owners, coffee “beginners” and also people who are knowledgeable but want to learn more and more about it.
Recently a lot of attention has been paid to coffee, particularly to specialty coffee and to new brewing techniques which has even become popular among the general public. This fact was positively reflected in greater turnout of the first two years of our festival.
The Festival weekend is filled with tastings, coffeeshop and roastery presentations, workshops, lectures and music programme. The invited guests from abroad will be prepared to share their rich experience during lectures and discussions.

The Kardashian Heist - We want your opinion

The Prague Times' Open Source Unit are developing lines of enquiry for the Kardashian Heist story which we will publish as news and as case studies for researchers and practitioners as the story unfolds. We'd like you to get involved too and we will explain how in a moment.

What's immediately evident is how the internet and social media are suspicious of the story as told and have asked some key questions of it. In fact, the internet and media are asking some very good questions indeed.

You can get involved by finding an internet article or social media post that, in your opinion, asks a key question. The article author's position can be that the story is fake, true, siding or non-committal. Tweet your links and question selection with the #praguetimes and #Kardashian robbery hashtags.

Narodni: Most dangerous street in Prague!

"Avoid Narodni like the plague" and "tragedy waiting to happen" are just some of the comments of Health and Safety officials we interviewed today regarding the Narodni Palace development by Hinton situated between Narodni Divadlo and Narodni Tesco.

A lacklustre and confusing set up in only results in pedestrians, a lot of them tourists and foreigners, walking in the road with flowing traffic and being subject to heavy equipment overflying the safe zone from above. ( See video above).

Hinton's the project developers are probably within the letter of the law, but a rather obvious question to ask them here is can more be done by them to help pedestrians prevent serious injury? Hinton's have been contacted and we are awaiting their input.

Your options coming from Narodni Divadlo are to turn back or walk in the road ! Hence,  the seemingly intuitive rationale to take the risk with the traffic. After an hour of watching by our reporter, this is exactly what everyone does, and surely the developers must also be aware of that.

Coming from the Narodni Trida Tesco there is a well worn crossing option (above) which almost everybody ignores.

Coming from Narodni Divadlo results in this confusing and badly maintained set up.
